Kijabe Hospital, Kenya

I have been one of the lucky 8 photographers selected to attend Kenya, Africa in November to photograph and document the Kijabe Hospital and the people it serves.  These images will be used to help raise necessary funding and raise awareness.  I’m so excited!!!!

Kenya

this is a link to Benjamin Edwards photographs from his trip to Kenya to bring awareness and help raise funds for these communities and hospitals.  Take a look at the image with the child holding the tablet that says Love.  Look at the joy in their faces!  But also see the tablet and how warn it is from so much use.  they need our help.  We are so privileged that we take forgranted sometimes the things our children have.  Please give if you can.

Kenya

This post is something that has been near and dear to my heart for a long time.  Travelling to Africa to help out their communities has always been a dream of mine.  I’m so hoping that I’m one of the chosen photographers to attend a workshop being hosted by Kevin Kubota and Doug Gordon.  I’ve been using my talents and time to bring awareness to local charities and events in my own community that I believe in.  I want to always help wherever I can and I believe it doesn’t have to be something significant to make things happen or to make a difference in someone’s life.  Give of yourself what you can.  I love that I can do that with the talent I have been given.  Even if I am not one of the chosen, I will be organizing some upcoming fundraising to assist this worthy cause and try to spread a little awareness so that others wanting to help can do so too.

Gilda's Club - Red Door Art Project

It was such a privilege working on this project to raise funds for the Gilda’s Club in Kingston. Collaborating with the fabulous Carla Collins has been such a joy for me. this door also symbolizes a lot to me personally and I almost hate to see it go from my home. After being diagnosed with cancer myself, and finding the humor in my everyday life living with cancer and the treatment, working with comedian Carla Collins was a perfect match. Humor and finding something funny about what I was going through made it much more bearable for me. It brought me out of the darkness and into a place where I could enjoy family and friends and whatever my life had to offer, even if it was just for a short time. My piece was finished and auctioned off and I’m proud that it raised $300 for Gilda’s Club. I have also been so inspired with what this group are trying to do that I have also gotten involved in the daily activities for fundraising so this organization can open it’s doors to cancer patients and their families. We can always use additional people, so if you’re interested, send me an email or look them up.

Gilda’s Club Red Door Art Project

I’m so excited to announce that I will be working on a piece for this wonderful group who are fundraising so that a Gilda’s Club can be opened in our area.  If you don’t know what Gilda’s Club is, follow the above link and learn more.  Having been a survivor of cancer myself, the need for a place that can offer assistance to patients and their families is going to be such a great thing to have in our community.  I’m honored to be a part of it.  I’m also thrilled to be collaborating with the very talented and funny comedian, actress, radio host, Carla Collins.
Watch for images of the finished project very soon and be sure to donate to this worthy event.

Family Portrait

Having the opportunity to capture a family in a place that means so much to them is so rewarding as a photographer, so imagine how the family will feel time and time again when they look as this image.

Family Portrait

I love when families include what they love doing as a family into their portrait session. What better way to capture and relay what your family is all about.
